SEAN KOCH
Sean Koch brings the sunny, relaxed and easy vibes of the South African surf life to the world. He was born and raised in the small village of Kommetjie just outside of Cape Town. In his easy-listening but profound songs, Sean deals with the lessons learned from his life in the Cape
Sean found his deep passion for music during his school days – from getting up in the morning until going to bed, he was constantly listening to his favourite music which brought him inspiration for life. After friends discovered his first songs, which had been written for himself only, he was motivated to share his music with the people.
The combination of optimism and simplicity with which Sean lives his life is reflected in his first EP “Natural Projection”, the work has the potential to tell a whole life story in just five tracks. ‘Lift You Up’, the spearhead song on the EP has gone double-platinum multiple times on Spotify alone!
2019 saw the release of his debut full length album titled ‘Your Mind is a Picture’ with songs such as ‘Feel the Energy’ and ‘We all Believe’ that have stuck to the rootsy, acoustic sound yet bringing in the dance vibe that Sean is adamant of keeping throughout his story telling music.
His deep connection to nature and the simple but adventurous way of living brand his unique sounds as much as his striking voice. Sean’s sound would not be the same without his band members who join him for live performances. Inspired by the music of Ben Howard, Xavier Rudd, Angus Stone and Milky Chance the duo and trio line up are constantly working on their sound to gain even more depth and variation.
They have taken various versions of their show to internationally known festival lineups such as Boardmasters Festival (UK), Sziget Festival (HG), Reeperbahn Festival (DE), Pangea Festival (DE), and headlining slots at Surfana Festival (NL), and Splash Fen (SA). With multiple EU tours under their belts, they have shared stages with Sticky Fingers (AUS), Will & the People(UK), A-ha (Norway), Mat McHugh / Beautiful Girls (AUS – to name a few).
Sticking to his guns, Sean is constantly looking for ways that his music can have a positive effect on the world around him. He has taken part in and spearheaded other community projects (Kom-Unity Showdown and The Winter Donations). In December 2021 he released “Dear Shell”, a protest song against the company’s planned seismic blasting along the country’s Wild Coast, it was licensed for free to multiple activist organisations, NPOs and campaigns
